AN OPTIMIZED DESIGN FOR A NONPROFIT’S OFFICE SPACE
NewSchools Venture Fund is a national nonprofit that raises charitable funds to invest in promising educators and entrepreneurs. Their vision, skills, and new ideas reimagine learning and make a positive impact on San Francisco Bay Area communities. Using our knowledge of office design for nonprofit spaces, Interior Motions partnered with Ware Malcomb and succeeded in reimagining their workspace with a more efficient layout, better acoustics for collaboration, and a visually inviting setting.
We started with an old building in Downtown Oakland that was not conducive to good acoustics. NewSchools operated out of a spacious room with high ceilings, exposed ductwork, and lots of windows. While the natural lighting brightened the space, the clamor could be overwhelming at times—as is the trouble with many open-concept offices. Our goal was to improve the layout of the space as well as the acoustics to provide a quieter workspace.
Our Solution:
Interior Motions helped the client choose sound-absorbing materials for collaborative spaces and side conference rooms where the most important conversations take place. Our team also interviewed each department to determine where they needed to be in relation to other teams to ensure the best office layout.
The Outcome:
We are proud to report that the NewSchools Venture Fund project was completed on-time and on-budget. The final product is an efficient, collaborative space that both employees and clients love to be in. Providing the design for a nonprofit’s office space can be daunting.
